August 20, 2024
In line with the directive of National Bureau of Investigation - Director JUDGE JAIME B. SANTIAGO (Ret.) to intensify the campaign against the illegal drug trade in the country, the joint operatives of NBI-Bayombong District Office (NBI-BAYDO), NBI- Cagayan Valley Regional Office (NBI-CAVRO), NBI- Cordillera Administrative Region (NBI-CAR), NBI-Alaminos District Office (NBI-ALDO), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Kalinga Provincial Office (PDEA-Kalinga) eradicated Php 15,400,000.00 worth of marijuana in Kalinga.
According to Director Santiago, the operation is the continuation of the collaborative efforts of the NBI, PDEA, and other law enforcement agencies in combating illegal drug trade in the country. On August 4, 2026, PDEA- Kalinga requested the assistance of the NBI to conduct anti-drug operation against the alleged marijuana plantations in Kalinga. Thus, on August 16, 2024, the joint operatives hatched the anti-drug operation, which resulted in the discovery of two (2) fully grown marijuana plantation sites spanning within an area of 15,400 square meters. The marijuana plants were uprooted, photographed, inventoried, and burned on-site by the joint operatives.
Santiago stressed that the successful operation is a result of the collective efforts of the law enforcement agencies and assured the continuous joint operations in the future. He added that further investigation will be conducted by the NBI to apprehend the owners and cultivators of the marijuana plantations.
Director Santiago lauded the operatives of NBI-BAYDO, NBI-CAVRO, NBI-CAR, and NBI-ALDO for their immediate action and warned individuals who are engaged in the illegal drug trade that the NBI will be relentless in cracking down their illegal activities.

The National Bureau of Investigation – Cordillera Administrative Region (NBI-CAR) seized and destroyed 19,500 pieces of fully grown Marijuana Plants, planted in an area of approximately 8,000 square meters with an estimated value of Php3,900,000.00 in Sitio Bana, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.
The operation is a result of the information received by NBI-CAR regarding the existence of several marijuana plantations with fully-grown marijuana plants in the said area being maintained by a certain alias “ARTURO” (FNU).
Thus, on February 20, 2024, NBI-CAR with proper coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – Cordillera, hatched Operation “BANA-02” and proceeded to the said area for the destruction of the marijuana plantations and the apprehension of alias “ARTURO” and his possible cohorts. Upon arrival at the first plantation, the operatives immediately conducted proper documentation, as there were no cultivators apprehended. NBI-CAR operatives immediately burned/destroyed the seized marijuana plants.
Simultaneous to the destruction of the marijuana plants, NBI-CAR operatives deployed a Drone to determine the exact location of the other nearby plantations. The same yielded positive result and the nearby plantations were also properly documented before the on-site destruction and burning.
The National Bureau of Investigation - Cordillera Regional Office (NBI-CAR) seized Forty Thousand Five Hundred (40,500) pieces of fully grown marijuana plants, with an estimated value of Eight Million One Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 8,100,000.00), cultivated in Kibungan, Benguet, in an estimated land area of 8,100 sqm in 15 marijuana plantation sites.
NBI-CAR thru an informant, received an information on January 05, 2024, vis-à-vis a marijuana (Cannabis Sativa) plantation. Accordingly, the said marijuana plants are ready for harvest for the said month.
On January 10, 2024, around 4:00 A.M, the joint operatives of NBI-CAR and PDEA-CAR arrived at the site where the said marijuana plantations are located. Although no cultivators/growers of the said plants were apprehended, documentation and destruction onsite of the marijuana plants ensued.
